By virtue of its size, hollow trunk, and potent fruit, the Baobab tree has historically been a point of convergence for communities in Senegal and beyond. The Lebou people, particularly, built villages in concentric circles around such trees.
Due to such deep anchorage in this heritage, the Baobab is the national emblem of Senegal. This one tree in articular is the center of Ngor Village, the village that grew nito one of Dakar's densest, richest testimony to a shared past.
